Abstract

This paper presents the FEA (Finite Element Analysis) of linear permanent magnet generator for WEC (Wave Energy Converter). Direct-drive linear generator is selected due to simplicity, reliability and low maintenance as compared to conventional rotary generator, which employs mechanical section that not only incurs losses in the system but requires significant maintenance also. A simple and lightweight linear permanent magnet generator is proposed which offers various advantages as compared to the existing developments. The electromagnetic performance of proposed linear PM generator is determined using FEA software. Both stationary and transient simulations are carried out and results are shown as per expected
